04-06-08 Barcelona Spain: 2238 hrs. In a hotel room on a night off. In the morning, I head out to the airport here and start on a very long journey to Australia via Singapore. The last few weeks have been very busy and eventful. I finished the US dates a couple of weeks ago, thanks so much for showing up and being so great. I went from America to Northern Ireland for a show in Belfast and to shoot interviews for another IFC special. We ended up with some amazing footage. I interviewed members of Sinn Fein, the IRA, Unionist leaders, Protestants, Catholics, human rights activists and I think we got a balanced and well-rounded take on things, that is to say different sides of the state of Northern Ireland were fairly represented, at least I hope so. I took a walk through the streets where Bloody Sunday happened in 1972 with a man who was in it, he’s going to be a great part of the show. All in all, it was a very educational trip. I know a lot more about Northern Ireland than I did before, even though I have been there many times. The audience was fantastic as always. From there I went to Spain to do three shows in Sevilla, Mallorca and Gijon. The language barrier was something to contend with but I did the best I could. The audiences were great but I think they had to work hard to stay with it. The last show of the three was last night. We flew here this morning. I have been walking around and sitting on park benches just watching things most of the day and evening. I was looking forward to two days off in Sydney to get my head around the time change but I have found out that the two days are two of the most ambitious press days of my life. I think one clocks in at 10 hours and the other on at 12+. So much for sleeping until I wake up. I guess that’s what the flights will be for. In any case, I am looking forward to all the shows there and in New Zealand as well. I will definitely write in from Australia and let you know what’s happening on the shows and all.
