05-29-08 LA CA: 0902 hrs. Living in Los Angeles has its challenges. When it gets to me, it gets to me but in a way, when it doesn’t get to me, it gets to me worse. I have never felt good about periods of time that slip by unnoticed or without some kind of consequence. This is what happens when I am here. Days go by and all of a sudden it’s Friday again. The week itself was a blur and there was nothing that really happened besides doing the radio show. Past that, it’s the office and the seated work involved with getting a manuscript prepared for publication. It’s not a small deal but it’s not the most exciting bit of work one will ever face. Therefore, there is nothing much for me to remark upon besides what I see happening in the news and I think any of you are capable of deriving conclusions of your own from what you have gleaned and you don’t need my take on any of the goings on. I do think it’s mildly interesting, the small bit of noise that has kicked up in the last 48 hours about ex White House press secretary Scott McClellan’s book What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture Of Deception. Pundits on the right are dismissing the work as sour grapes or opportunism and nothing to remark upon. I wouldn’t expect anything else. The intensity of Amazon.com 1 star reviews by people who probably didn’t read the book think the man is a damn traitor. The White House is taking the high road, scratching their collective heads as to how poor Scott has managed to come so undone over the years. I think they are hoping the book will go away. It will. Nothing will happen. The book doesn’t interest me in the least. His is not the wallet I want to fatten. On a brighter note, later today, I get a lesson on how to work with a new piece of gear I got that allows me to go from analog to digital very easily so next week’s radio show will feature all kinds of rare, vinyl only goodies with more to come.
