05-05-08 Vientiane Laos: 2232 hrs. In a hotel with a very low amount of insect life in the room. The last two nights in Xieng Khouang Laos were amazing in many ways but one of the standout features of my two days there were all the other guests in my room. As soon as a sun is down, the bugs come out in force. My room was all of a sudden full of insects that could take your sandwich and fly off with it. They would come slamming into things, like acorns from a slingshot. There was a huge praying mantis on my door when I came back to the room post dinner last night that allowed me to take some photos of it without making off with my camera. I flew here this afternoon and walked around for awhile until I had sweated through my shirt and worn myself out. I am now in the room that has some moving air, not like last night were it was me and the mosquitoes all night long. I am up in a few hours to fly to Cambodia for a few days and then onto Vietnam. I would like to hang outside some more tonight but I have to be up at 0400 hrs. to go to the airport. Tomorrow will be a long day.
