03-29-09 Charlottesville VA: 2036 hrs. Took a day to get here. Bright and early tomorrow morning, I will be at MusicToday, signing up copies of A Preferred Blur. I will be in the building before the mail order crew gets there so by the time they arrive, they will have plenty of books to send out. It will take me all of the day to get it all done but I expect all the books will be in the mail by Tuesday or at the latest, Wednesday. We had no idea the print run was going to sell through that quickly. It usually takes about a week, this time it only a few hours and they were gone. I got quite a few letters from people who were a little angry that they missed out. I am sorry. I got a copy that was sent to the office, it has a torn cover. I am a little angry myself. The retail version of the book isn’t supposed to come out for a few months but we are going to make a run of them and get them to MusicToday ASAP. I will let you know when that happens. They won’t be signed and the photo insert will be b/w but at least it will be available sooner than later. I will be happy to sign it after the show the next time I am in your town, you know how we always congregate out by the bus post gig, just bring it and I’ll sign it. Thanks for the interest in the book.. We will do a similar numbered and signed edition for A Mad Dash this coming fall, we’ll let you know when that is done. Last night, I finished the radio show at KCRW, went back to the office, did some things, then slept for a couple of hours and went to the airport. I don’t remember the flight to Dulles, I must have slept. I got to the rental car place, got a car and drove about 120 miles here. I saw a whole lot of antique and gun stores on the way. Whoa, I think every fire truck and ambulance in the town just passed by the hotel. Something is up. Last night, I made my first ever purchase from iTunes. There is a Flin Flon album called Et Cetera that is download only and there was no way I could live without hearing it, so I went through all the hurdles and managed to download it. I am listening to it now. Sounds good. I have been throwing myself into new projects now that AMD is off my desktop for a little while. I am writing a speech for a university’s commencement ceremony that I have been asked to deliver. For the sake of the University, I will withhold the name until the event is done. I have also been working hard on a book we plan to release in 2011. I have about eighteen months to get it done. It’s going to be a lot of work but it will be worth it. When it’s a bit closer to conclusion, I will let you know what is happening with it. I know a year and a half sounds like a long time and it is but not when it comes to a book. Trying to write has taught me about patience. I remember many years ago, I was living in NYC and working on Get In The Van. I had come back from practice and went back to work. My chair was a bed and my desk was a steamer trunk with a box on top of it. I was transcribing writing out of a notebook and it hit me that in a year, I would still be working on this same book. There is yet another book project that I will start preparing for second draft raking soon if I can get clear on other projects. I am not exactly sure as to what the demands of the Sons Of Anarchy show will be. I don?t know if I?ll have any desk time or what, so I am trying to get a lot of things done before the show kicks in. It looks like the next talking tour will start in late January of next year. I have no details yet, as things are just getting started on that front but it will be a long one and will go all over the place as you would expect. On and off, hopefully about a year and a half. These tours have a very long planning phase. You finish one and only a few months later, you’re planning the next one.. It takes that long to get it all together. I have not been doing a lot of news checking over the last few days as much as I have been listening to music. There has been a lot of incoming records as of late and I am trying to work through a pretty high stack at the office. It’s old and new stuff, sometimes it takes me years to catch up on things. I have also been working on future radio broadcasts. I try to have several in a state of near completion so I can listen to them over and over to make sure they are good. I know that?s a little nuts but since I only get two hours a week, I try to make it count. Tomorrow is going to be a very long day like this one was. I should get my head down. Thanks for reading.
