03-28-10 Ithaca NY: 1727 hrs. Interesting. The same time as last week. So the week in Canada is behind us now. All the shows went well, great audiences, good shows. I shared Eastern Canada with Ann Coulter. She was there for some talking shows of her own. We were both in Ottawa together, sadly, we were separated by a few miles. I had a great time at my show, Ann got a couple of protestors, about two thousand. She canceled her night, too bad that we did not have a chance to hang out, there would have been so much to talk about. You can read her take on the time she spent in Canada by reading her piece Oh Canada that she posted a few days ago.
Last Sunday, I had a night off in Montreal and watched the Healthcare Reform Bill pass. That was an interesting night of television to be sure. My favorite, John Boehner from the great state of Ohio was on the floor, acting out in his best junior thespian style. Knowing that he was not going to get his way was very satisfying to me. I am used to losing so it was a great night for me and while some will not agree, a good night for the country.
The last week has been turbulent in America. There are some very angry people out there, letting their voices be heard. The anger, while genuine seems rather unfocused and crazed. Not all Americans handle change all that well. If you look at your recent American history, you will see that even a few decades ago, the passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 was met with very loud and sometimes violent resistance. I think America is going to have to go through some of that again. I hope no one gets killed.
I have another two weeks of shows here in America and then it’s onto Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. I will be back in America in May and the US and Canadian dates will go on into June. As dates come in, we will post them. Places I am not getting to on this next leg, I will get to later in the year. I am sixty shows in with many to go. Things are good, I am hanging in there and looking forward to getting onstage every night. I am getting to the gym when I should, that helps a lot out here.
