Fanatic!  It looks like this is the last show we will be doing on KCRW Berlin. I have no idea as to why the station is no more. All I know is we were told that this is it. So, we decided to put together a good time mix tape of tracks that will hopefully make for two great hours of listening.

Fanatic! I’m writing to you on 26-11-20, 1757 hrs. PST. I’m side two of the Complete Sun Ship Session of John Coltrane, release on vinyl in 2013 on Mosaic in an edition of 3500. Luckily, I got it right when it came out. Coltrane in 1965, forget it. What a band. 

As you might know, today is a big American holiday called Thanksgiving. It’s steeped in tradition, myth, propaganda and revisionist whimsy. I had a bowl of soup fresh out of the microwave.

Fanatic! It’s Thursday night in Los Angeles. I’m watching the news and listening to music. That is to say, I’m waiting for election results. What will be? Like I know?!

I would like to say at this moment that I’m truly sorry for the insults the current resident in the White House has leveled at Germany and I hope things change soon.

I keep the Berlin weather report on my phone so I can always see what it’s like there. It would be so great to be on tour right now in Germany. I miss it! Last night I listened to a great condition copy of Die Mensch Maschine I got in a record store in Hamburg in 2012 I think it was.

I hope we’re all in a better place soon.

Fanatic! It looks like you’ve got some autumn weather there. Hooray! I hope that’s what you like. I am presently stored in Los Angeles and while it’s cooler than it’s been, it’s still pretty warm. Not my kind of October but I’m not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. 

What we have tried to establish with our October shows is the mix tape / occasional album deep dive. I’m hoping you’re digging it.

As you know, Los Angeles is part of Southern California, parts of which are experiencing devastating wildfires. Sometimes the air here is full of smoke. Not only does it smell bad but you realize that it’s people’s houses, cars, writing, art, record collections. It’s very sad.

Sonic’s Rendezvous Band - Detroit Tango: Splattered Records has released a limited 200  run of the 2LP compilation of Sonic’s Rendezvous Band music called Detroit Tango. The site has a great explanation as to its existence, so in the interest of making for a more perfect union between you and this excellent release, I will cut and paste from the site. Thanks, Reed! 

Released and imported from Svart Records of Finland. When the first pressing of this killer slab sold out, I contacted my friend at Svart to inquire about getting a large quantity of the second batch for distribution within the US. We came up with the idea of doing an exclusive colored-vinyl version for Splattered Recs. So here you have it.

One of thee best official compilations of Sonic's Rendezvous Band material ever released. I describe it as a best of selection from the expensive 6-CD box set that Easy Action released years ago. This is one of thee greatest bands to ever exist and forever a Detroit staple.

Limited to 200 copies on sun yellow, translucent vinyl. All copies include an 18x24" foldout poster.

Fanatic! I hope you’re hanging in there. Things are typically strange in the USA at present. It’s always intense here but these days, whoa. 

Here is an excerpt from my show notes for our USA broadcast from last week. I thought you might find some of it interesting and useful. 

Heidi and I have put together a TV show, if you will. We call it the Henry and Heidi $1.99 Show. It’s basically a video version of our podcast. This allows us to show you some of the things we talk about. We thought that the visuals would make for better story telling. If you’re familiar with our podcast, it runs very much the same. We have different parts, the main one being a story, which we call Show and Tell. What’s cool about this way of doing it is that I know in advance what the topic is and I prepare. I assemble records, flyers, etc. Then, I roll out the story and show you stuff which we also put up on split screen, so you can get a better look at whatever I'm showing you. We hope the show does well enough to allow us to go to different locations and get some interesting footage. As with all things, there’s a learning curve. We’re finding out how much work it takes to edit and put a show together. It’s a lot! Here’s the link to the first one.

I don’t know if it’s human nature or that  Americans can’t be told what to do or what but I don’t think it’s going to get better around here for a long time.
