Fanatic! I know I laid a lot on you last week list wise. I reckon it’s my duty to let you know about all these cool records and you’ll do what you want with the information. Fanatic, there’s no way I can’t tell you.

Last night I finally rocked the LP version of Do The Duvet by Naked Roommate on LP. This band features Amber Sermeño and Andy Jordan of the World. When you listen to Do The Duvet, that really comes out. Great record! Looking forward to playing this one again. It connects so well on vinyl. This one has been released on Upset! The Rhythm and recently on the great Trouble In Mind label. https://nakedroommate.bandcamp.com/album/do-the-duvet

Get on the Rock Is Hell Records mailing list so you can get the heads up on yet another Osees record, one called Metamorphosed coming out later this year. It’s amazing. Here’s some info.

I have no way of knowing where you are, Fanatic. Here in Los Angeles, the sky has been filled with smoke for the last few days. It’s awful knowing how permanently how many lives have been affected.

We have a great show lined up for you as you can see. I hope you get a chance to check it out. Fanatic, I know that you’re likely beyond done with all the precautions you have to take to stay safe. Please stay with it.

Keep playing music and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! I hope you had a great week. I’ve been working on things, listening to a lot of music and trying to stay cool It’s a bit warm in Los Angeles (understatement) and I reckon we’re in for some sustained heat.

Fanatic, you remember that for the last several weeks there were so many great records coming out this year. It’s started! Here is a list of some of them.

Some Great Records To Make Note Of Dept.

Sonic’s Rendezvous Band - Detroit Tango: Splattered Records has released a limited 200  run of the 2LP compilation of Sonic’s Rendezvous Band music called Detroit Tango. The site has a great explanation as to its existence, so in the interest of making for a more perfect union between you and this excellent release, I will cut and paste from the site. Thanks, Reed!

Released and imported from Svart Records of Finland. When the first pressing of this killer slab sold out, I contacted my friend at Svart to inquire about getting a large quantity of the second batch for distribution within the US. We came up with the idea of doing an exclusive colored-vinyl version for Splattered Recs. So here you have it.

One of thee best official compilations of Sonic's Rendezvous Band material ever released. I describe it as a best of selection from the expensive 6-CD box set that Easy Action released years ago. This is one of thee greatest bands to ever exist and forever a Detroit staple.

Limited to 200 copies on sun yellow, translucent vinyl. All copies include an 18x24" foldout poster.

I’m listening to my copy as I write this. Hell, yes. This is great. Fred Smith!!!

New Dion Lunadon - Schreien EP: This is a great one. Can’t wait to hear more from this guy.

https://dionlunadon.bandcamp.com

May I take a moment to say how hard the SRB record is rockin’?! I’m on side two. Serious Motor City mania. I haven’t heard this since I cranked the red vinyl version on Svart. The CD version on Easy Action but on vinyl, this is supreme. Fred is unreal.

============

Bent Arcana and Osees albums on Castle Face: These records sell through quickly. I’ve heard them both and they’re so great.

============

Fuzz - Fuzz III: Another installment of the great trio featuring Ty Segall on drums and vocals, Chad Ubovich on bass and Charles Moothart on guitar. We’ll start rolling out tracks in November. I’ve had this one for months and had to keep my mouth shut. So glad it’s coming out. https://intheredrecords.com/products/fuzz-iii

============

J Zunz - Hibiscus LP: Lore from Lorelle Meets The Obsolete solo release. I played the LP last night. Super great. https://jzunz.bandcamp.com

============

The SRB version of Claudine Clarke’s Party Lights always gets me. You think the song is over and then they bring it down and somehow make it burn hotter. What a band! This is playing right now. When Scott Asheton brings it back in, so great!

============

Whirlywirld - Complete Studio Works (1978-80 Archival) LP: Great comp. of one of Ollie Olsen’s bands. This guy was so ahead of the curve.

Ashtray Navigations -  Para Sol Production CD: Another great Ash Nav release. Phil Todd is brilliant. I’m on the AN bandcamp mailing list, so I hopefully never miss a release.

Did you check out the cool Gun Club and Ruts DC 7”s Larry Hardy and I put out last week?! I know, they were gone fast. At the end of this month, on the next RSD, we’ve got another 7” that, I have to say, I do believe we’ve outdone ourselves on this one. We’ll give you a heads up a few days out.

I hope you’ve been taking good care of yourself. I can only imagine how done you are with things. I hope you like interesting times because Fanatic, we’re definitely in them.

I know that was a lot of information. We’ve got a great show for you. Thank you for listening. Times are very, very trying right now. Hang in there and keep listening to music.

Stay healthy and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic!

RSD was pretty cool, don’t you think? Stoked about the Fall live in Reykjavik 2LP set coming out. Our Ruts DC and Gun Club 7 “s have been unleashed! We’ve got a great one for next month.

Something I forgot to mention last week was that Lore from Lorelle Meets The Obsolete has done two really great solo releases. Digging these big time! Here’s the info: https://jzunz.bandcamp.com/music

So, Fanatic, even though we will have heat here and there, the end of August, which, we’re pretty much at tonight, means the end of summer, at least to me. September first is the start of autumn in my mind. Tonight will be our last visit with Mr. Bogert and his talented frogs and toads until next year. Poetic!

I’ve been working on our September shows for weeks and I think we’ve got great ones lined up. Until then, please enjoy our last one for Fanatic summer. I’m going to put some of last week’s notes in here as I am hoping you will check out these cool releases.

I got an email from a guy named Alex who suggested I check out a band called Bob Vylan. I went to their bandcamp page and listened. I thought they were great. The language they use, we would have to cut out and I think that would damage and insult the music so we’re not going to. I would recommend you give them a listen. https://bobvylan.bandcamp.com/music

The great Dion Lunadon has a new 7”!

https://dionlunadon.bandcamp.com

A new Jonny Telafone recording, name your price.

https://jonnytelafone.bandcamp.com

Our Ty Segall tackles Nilsson Schmilsson! Free download.

Did you know that before Gun Club, Jeffrey Lee Pierce had a band called Red Lights? So great! Tapes have been found and a great EP of the music has just come out on In The Red.

https://intheredrecords.com/products/red-lights-s-t-12-ep?_pos=2&_sid=9b706650b&_ss=r

There are even more great records coming out later this year. I have heard them! They exist! We will play them!

Fanatic, I know that there’s not only a pandemic but some very real danger on the streets. It’s not for me to hand out advice but please, be careful.

So glad you dug last week’s Jazz show. I figured since we have five Sundays this month, we should get conceptual on at least two of them.

I have my Fall album coming to me from England. I guess I’ll only have to wait three months for it to arrive. Patient? Me? Never!

Until next week, please, stay safe and stay Fanatic!!!

Fanatic. I hope you’ve had a good week. Not the easiest thing to do these days but I’m sure you’re giving it your best.

The great Walter Lure, the last remaining member of the Heartbreakers has passed away. L.A.M.F. is one of the best records ever.

You know how some of our radio notes have a long list of things to check out? I think this will be one of those.

Heidi and I have put together a TV show, if you will. We call it the Henry and Heidi $1.99 Show. It’s basically a video version of our podcast. This allows us to show you some of the things we talk about. We thought that the visuals would make for better story telling. If you’re familiar with our podcast, it runs very much the same. We have different parts, the main one being a story, which we call Show and Tell. What’s cool about this way of doing it is that I know in advance what the topic is and I prepare. I assemble records, flyers, etc. Then, I roll out the story and show you stuff which we also put up on split screen, so you can get a better look at whatever I'm showing you. We hope the show does well enough to allow us to go to different locations and get some interesting footage. As with all things, there’s a learning curve. We’re finding out how much work it takes to edit and put a show together. It’s a lot! Here’s the link to the first one: https://www.henryrollins.com/199-show/2020/8/17/episode-1-minutemen

You might remember for the last several weeks, I’ve been telling you that Larry Hardy and I have been plotting and planning, putting together some super cool 7” records. We have four titles done and finally, we can tell you about some of them because two are coming out for RSD THIS COMING SATURDAY!!! So stoked about this.

We’ve got a Ruts DC record with two songs. Segs gave me a two song 7” with a reworking of Jah War called War On Crime on the B side. It’s great. He then sent me a file that was online only, which was a Dub version of this. I wrote him and asked if we could make the B side of his record the A side and the Dub version the B side. He said yes and we got to work. None other than Mikey Young does our mastering and unsurprisingly, he did a great job. It comes in a cool red/white/black limited pressing.

ALSO, we’ve got a fantastic Gun Club 7” with two live tracks. The A side is Eternally Is Here and the B side is the band doing a ripping version of Psycho by the Sonics. Three color variants!!!

IMG_0083.jpg

That’s this coming Saturday. Our next one, (it’s amazing) will be out September 26.

Get ready get set for a new Cool Greenhouse track called Alexa. I think they’re putting it out in a couple of weeks. It’s great. I’ll let you know when it’s up.

I hope I didn’t leave anything out. Whew!

And . . . we have a great show for you. This is our Jazz Juggernaut! We try to do one of these every year. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don’t. All Jazz all night! We hope you dig it.

Stay safe and stay Fanatic.

Fanatic! We’re doing it again! It’s our Case Of The Punks show! Look below, it’s a lot of tunes. I don’t think we did one of these last year. I figured that since we have five Sundays this month, we might as well.

Fanatic, it’s not like you need me to tell you anything and I’m obviously not qualified but I’m willing to bet that you’re past your limit on how things are. I’m willing to bet you were past it weeks or months ago. I’m not able to read your mind but if this is the case, I can tell you that it’s been the same for me.

All my shows for this year canceled. All the travel plans I had dissolved. Like people all over the world, I’m making adjustments and doing the best I can. I get that some things won’t be back to how they were. I know it’s hard to complain as it’s abundantly clear that everyone is going through something because of this virus. That being said, that doesn’t make your grievances any less valid. It’s hard to keep your mouth shut in an atmosphere of such frustration.

Two nights ago, I went to my usual coffee hang out and sat outside of it for half an hour just to do something. Driving home, I felt foolish but I think it’s par for the course with what we’re all going through presently.

I know you’re handling all this and like I said, it’s not for me to hand out life advice but may I offer as a mere idea, that for at least two hours every Sunday, or whenever you’re listening to the show, please know that myself, Engineer X and Engineer Am Rock are doing our best to keep it happening on our end and that we’re putting the show together knowing that you might very well be listening a bit harder than usual. For these two hours, let us do the lifting and just let yourself dig the jams.

There is SO much great music to look forward to this year. You’ve already seen the Stooges Goose Lake LP, the two new records that Mr. John Dwyer put out in the last few days. I’ve had these for months and have been looking forward being able to put them on the show when we get the green light. A few hours ago, I got yet another new album we’re going to have to wait on for a little while but it’s going to be great, so we have that.

Fanatic, hang in there. Good nutrition, fitness as safely as you can get it done. Music, books and persistence. We’ve got a great show for you tonight and next week’s is already prepared.

We are so glad you’re listening.

Maintain and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! August will soon be upon us. The end of summer is nigh. I want to travel but I can’t. I want to do this or that or whatever else, but I can’t. I know you’re going through your own version of this so I’m not trying to complain. I mentioned all this because I wanted to tell you that I’m so glad you’re listening to the show and so glad it’s something that is useful. Music is great all the time anyway but right now, I think we might be leaning on it harder than at other times in recent memory. So, thanks so much for tuning in. We’ve got a great one lined up for you.

If you got the download version of the new Damaged Bug album, the full download address probably showed up in your email over the weekend. I got it so I could get the three track and be able to bring them to you. I’ll get more tracks from that one in in weeks to come.

I got yet another two, count’em two test pressings of upcoming releases that I think you’re going to dig. It’s not for me to say what they are but I can promise we will have tracks from them later this year and I think you’re going to be into it.

Oh! Fanatic Denise let me know that there’s another release by Jonnine.

A cassette called Blue Hills. It’s great. https://boomkat.com/products/blue-hills-0ab599f7-841e-4060-ad89-30af0d8d6386

Remember over the last several weeks I told you that Larry Hardy and I have been working on a number of super cool limited 7”s? The last one is being pressed up now and later in the year, we’re going to release them all at once to save everyone postage and hassle. The third one just came back last week. SO INTO THIS!!! It’s going to be great. Get ready.

It’s probably hot where you are. Stay safe! Keep the music on, stay healthy and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! So glad to have you tuning in to the show. It’s a great one. The Mexican Leaf Frog sets the mood quite well.

You remember last week when I told you that Larry Hardy and I have been working on some 7” records that we were going to put out later this year. Another batch just came back from the pressing plant. They look/sound great! Only one more to go and then we’ll be able to roll them out for you. I think you’re going to be stoked.

Here’s that list of cool records from last week.

New Music from Guerilla Toss.

https://guerillatoss.bandcamp.com/album/human-girl-2

I’m usually stuck in my office all day. When the day is over, I think it’s a good idea to get out of there and change the scenery. I’ve been taking to staying in there at night now and tripping on how the place lights and what it feels like to still be in there at such odd hours. Last night, I went out and . . . got some gas for the car. Yeah!

I hope you’re taking care of yourself. We, the Mighty Three, the Superstars of NPR, have great shows lined up for you. Please keep listening to the weekly jam session!

Stay safe and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! I hope your holiday was safe and fun. I’m in Los Angeles at the moment. There’s a haze in the air that reminds me of the LA from many years ago when you couldn’t see down the street or many afternoons I’ve spent in Beijing. The weather report says the air quality is unhealthy. The heat is back.

Last night, the fireworks were nonstop past midnight.

The newest Omar Souleyman is good as well. I bought the record and asked the label twice for downloads but never heard back. https://omarsouleyman.bandcamp.com/album/shlon

The Stooges Goose Lake LP is going to be a great one. https://thirdmanstore.com/live-at-goose-lake-august-8th-1970-lp

We have a great show lined for you here. Hopefully it helps finish off the weekend. Take good care of yourself and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic. Another intense week. I hope you’ve been keeping well and staying safe. I’ve been working on things as best I can and have been for the most part, busy and getting things done.

I’ve been getting a lot of listening done and that’s been great. I’ve not taken the time to check out older titles, I’m trying to check out records I haven’t heard yet. It’s such a different mindset than listening to that which is familiar. I like both but right now, newer titles are keeping me looking forward.

My newest book, Stay Fanatic!!! Vol. 1 is back in print. The second pressing came out looking good.

I got a few emails about the last shows. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying them. That’s what it’s all about. Things are very challenging at present. Music is always good but right now, it’s a great thing to have access to.

I just watched The Man Who Fell To Earth again yesterday. Interesting piece of work and is still cool to check out.

We hope you dig the show, thank you so much for listening and stay Fanatic. –– Henry

Fanatic! I’m not sure, if you’re living in the USA, what this holiday has you doing. I don’t know how exactly how safe the usual gatherings for food, libation and celebration this weekend traditionally entails this time around.

I just got a copy of the new Party Dozen album Pray For Party Dozen. On vinyl, it sounds great.

https://party-dozen.bandcamp.com/album/pray-for-party-dozen

I heard some other records over the last few days that aren’t out yet but they will be and I can’t wait to be able to get them on the show. Even though times are exceedingly trying at present, no matter where you are, thankfully musicians are still making great music. We are so lucky.

Fanatic, we have a great line up of music for you tonight, I hope you get a chance to listen to the show at least twice.

I hope things have settled into a routine that it tolerable. I had no idea how many things I took for granted. I didn’t think going to a coffee place and sitting there for a while was a thing I wasn’t going to be able to do all of a sudden but here we are. Staying patient and being open minded and creative are key for what’s ahead. Just because we must endure, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy. Hey, at least we’ve got music.

Hang in there and STAY FANATIC!!!

The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) is doing their level best to keep venues open during these trying times. It’s probably a fact that you haven’t been going to shows like you used to. Imagine being someone who works at a venue and being out of a job or the owner of the venue being crushed by the expenses that leasing a space entails. I had shows this year and they all got canceled. I have tour dates booked for the future and have no idea if I’ll get to do those shows. This is the NIVA site address if you want to know more. SaveOurStages.com

It’s been a strange time these last several weeks. I’ve been working every day and actually getting a lot done. I go out only to get the mail twice a week and groceries now and then. I noticed a lot of people on the road last night when I went to get food. I hope everyone’s staying careful. We must maintain our vigilance and stay disciplined.

Next week’s show is already done and I hope you will like it. Thanks for listening. I’m glad we’re able to deliver music to you.

Hang in there and stay Fanatic.

Fanatic! Another week of liquid time. I looked at the calendar and was momentarily surprised that it’s already ten days into May. It is? Yes.

I hope you’ve been bearing up in these trying times. A few things I want to run by you.

As might imagine, the damned virus has made release schedules move around. One of my favorite releases for this year, Alice Bag’s Sister Dynamite album came out last Friday but due to In The Red Records distributor not being open for the next several days, ITR is only able to sell the record digitally and mail order. SO, the album is available and it’s a great one but you need to order it from the ITR site. I know it’s a pain in the neck not to be able to go to the record store. Here is some writing about the album and ordering info.

Prolific punk icon, singer/songwriter, musician, author and feminist, Alice Bag has released her new album Sister Dynamite via In The Red Records. Throughout the album, Bag reveals her incredible ability to turn nuanced political statement into impossibly catchy punk songs. New album single “Spark” lights a fire against the haters. A song about self-acceptance and self-love, it exalts the differences that other people might see as odd or queer because they are what makes you unique.

Her third solo effort, the album marks a thrilling return to the full-throttle punk that Bag pioneered with her legendary first-wave punk band, The Bags. While maintaining a “communicate not indoctrinate” line of thought when it comes to her songwriting, Bag hopes that the songs on Sister Dynamite might help to build the profound sense of solidarity she experienced back in the original L.A. punk community. With its breakneck velocity and galvanizing melodies, Bag teamed up with her core group of musicians to achieve the album’s kinetic sound. Co-produced by Bag and her longtime collaborator Lysa Flores (who plays rhythm guitar and sings backing vocals on several songs) at L.A.’s Station House Studios, Sister Dynamite finds features guitarist Sharif Dumani and bassist David O. Jones with Candace P.K. Hansen and Rikki “Styxx” Watson trading off on drums, each lending her distinct musicality to the album’s potent rhythms.

Watch her latest video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PfiHLK9GWU&feature=youtu.be

Buy the album here - https://intheredrecords.com/collections/frontpage/products/alice-bag-sister-dynamite

I don’t think this is going to be an isolated case. I know it’s not easy and might not but at the front of your thoughts as I’m sure you have plenty to deal with as it is but we have to do our best to keep our Independent bands and labels going.

Also, an excellent record from our friends at Trouble In Mind Records I wanted to bring to your attention. Super cool band from Spain, Melenas. Their Dias Raros LP is great from start to finish. We’ll start it next week. You can hear tracks and order up here: http://www.troubleinmindrecs.com/melenas-dias-raros/.

As well, Stephen O’Malley of SUNN 0))) has a released a solo album on Editions Mego called Auflösung Der Zeit. I had this one cranked a few nights ago. Imagine SUNN 0))) but more aggressive. I know, what?! So into this record. You can check it out here: http://editionsmego.com/release/EMEGO-278. I’m on the site listening now as I write this.

HELL YES.

Our first track tonight is from the new Cool Greenhouse album. Finally coming out later this month. Here’s the info: https://thecoolgreenhouse.bandcamp.com

Oh! There’s a new Ashtray Navigations release that just came out called It Was The Start Of Another Strange Week. Phil Todd never stops. We have a track from it for you tonight.

https://ashtraynavigations.bandcamp.com

I heard a record a few nights ago, apparently in the test pressing stage, so I guess it’s slated for this year, another great one. When I can say more, I will. It’s yet another on the stack of great records yet to be released this year. I’m not trying to be a tease (a little maybe) but I just want you to be reminded that we have a lot of great music to look forward to.

As I’m sure you’re well aware, we lost three major musicians over the last few days. Tony Allen, peerless drummer of Fela Kuti renown, Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk and Little Richard. It’s a lot to take in. Next week, we will rock some Tony solo and Kraftwerk tracks and get to some Little Richard later in the month. I’m sorry for not being able to be more responsive but we’re all working from different places on the show.

Fanatic, hang in there, hang in there, hang in there. Masks, hands, distance, touching. It’s like putting your seatbelt on. You just do it.

Meanwhile, I am working seven days a week on the next Stay Fanatic!!! book. I crossed the 400 scan mark a few days ago. Excited about this one. Looks like we’re on track for a December release.

Fanatic, hang in there, hang in there, hang in there. Masks, hands, distance, touching. It’s like putting your seatbelt on. You just do it.

Maintain your marathon mind and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! I hope you’re hanging in there.

We’re going to start a new album next week that just came out on Trouble In Mind. The band is called Melenas. They’re from Spain and I think it’s a really cool album. You listen to a few tracks from their new Dias Raros album at their bandcamp site. https://melenas.bandcamp.com/album/dias-raros

The new album by X is solid. It just came out on Fat Possum. We start that one tonight.

https://xtheband.bandcamp.com/album/alphabetland

We should have started this album many weeks ago. It got lost in a stack of records but we have it going now. The Priests Seduction of Kansas album on Sister Polygon. https://priests.bandcamp.com

How we’re living right now isn’t easy. Now that it’s warming up, it’s not getting any easier but we have to hang in there and keep adapting and finding ways forward. I’ve always liked doing a radio show, as time consuming as it often can be. Now, more than ever, I’m so glad to be able to provide something that you might like.

Stay safe and STAY FANATIC!!!
