Fanatic! I’m posting the notes for our next show super early so I have one more chance to remind you about the Dischord box set mentioned below. I’m doing this because Dischord really isn’t kidding about the June 11 cut off. Ian told me they’re getting some inquiries about being a day or two late. The cut off is the cut off. Also, this really is a one time only pressing. No doubt some people are buying them to flip them at all the usual places so don’t end up paying twice the price and reinforcing bad behavior. This is going to be a great one.

Special Announcement

Fanatic! Now and then, I tell you there are great records in our future that I know for a fact are on the way. I also tell you until the label makes an announcement, I have to keep the information to myself.

Ian MacKaye has been keeping me in the loop on the progress of one such project for several months: Dischord 200, a limited edition box set containing the first six 7” releases of Dischord Records. Information can be found at the site address below.

https://boxset.dischord.com/

What’s important to know is that this is a one time only press run. The amount produced will be determined by how many are ordered. The last day to order is June 11th,  2021. Dischord is not kidding! Once the orders are filled, that’s it. There will be no second run.

Okay. You have been advised enough! I just don’t want you to miss out. I can’t wait to hear this one.

I hope your week is going well, this being an early send out, we still have days to go before the weekend. Heidi and I are about 30,000 words into the final edit of Stay Fanatic!!! Vol. 03. These books are a lot of work. To get it to this stage, where it can be read aloud for the last draft has been about eight months of almost daily application and scanning. I’ve scanned over 400 images and still have a few more to go but I’m almost there.

Another great gathering of tunes we have prepared for you. The Spiritual Mafia LP came in recently. I’ve only had one chance to hear it all the way through and it’s really cool but I’ll need a couple of more plays to get my head around it. Interesting record. No band information on the record, no side info on the labels. I notice this a lot these days. Is that a youth thing? You bought the record but you don’t get to know which side is which without having to look at the matrix info? I mean, I do that anyway but still, it’s a bit much but what do I know.

Fanatic, I heard a test pressing the other day of a record that’s coming out later this year. I can’t say anything more at this point but I will say that every track will be on the show (if we’re not canned, one never knows) when it’s released.

I hope these early notes are not too much of an intrusion.

Have a great week and STAY FANATIC!!!

–– Henry

Fanatic! Do we have a great Saturday night show lined up for you. Extreme cool mix tape thing we have happening here.

We’ve been looking at all those Bandcamp pages on the new releases and I’m not going to drag you through them all again. I get the idea that you now how to look for things on the internet or otherwise having your hand held. If anything, you could easily teach me a ton of things.

Fanatic, this is my last Saturday to remind you about this. June 11 is the cut off! I can’t wait for this one.

Fanatic! I hope you had a great week. I was busy working on a lot of things. We have a great show lined up for you. We’ve been lucky to have a lot of new records on the show over the last few weeks. There are more great ones coming soon.

I listened to the new Scientists album Negativity on LP a couple of hours ago and it’s really good.

https://intheredrecords.com/collections/frontpage/products/the-scientists-negativity

Get ready for delays on vinyl deliveries on your preorders. It’s not the label’s fault. Vinyl is taking months to get out of the plant and back to labels. Larry Hardy and I have some great 7” records that have been in the works since last year and they’re only arriving now. We’ll have a great announcement for you soon. Super cool and super limited.

I don’t know if you saw the memo I sent out a few days ago about a new and very limited release on Dischord Records. Since it is limited and there is a brief window of opportunity to get it, I thought I better put the notice here.

Fanatic, it’s not for me to tell you what to do but as your sonic ally, I strongly recommend you get in on this. When Dischord was just getting started, it was an extremely exciting time. All that energy is in the box set. I was around for the early days of Dischord and as you can imagine, it was a lot of work to get the releases made and out of the door. The fact that forty years on, Dischord is still in operation and doing the work is really inspiring. It started with these records. All of the tracks have been remastered from the source tapes and the original artwork has been utilized to make this a truly one-of-a-kind release.

Again, Dischord 200 will not be in stores. It’s mail order only and the window of opportunity closes on June 11th 2021.

I hope you dig tonight’s show. Until next week, stay safe and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! Good to be back with you. I hope your week was safe and productive. We have, yet again put together a show that you will hopefully find to your liking.

The new Flat Worms 7” is really great. It was the very dedicated and hard working LA based taper extraordinaire Gerhard Lippert who told me to drop what I was doing and listen to this band. He was right, of course. We’ll check out a track from this record tonight. https://www.dragcity.com/products/the-guest

A few days ago, I talked with Steve and Paul Hanley of The Fall. That was a very interesting conversation. They have great memories. I had a lot of questions for them which they were happy to answer.

I don’t know if this would be in your wheelhouse but I listened to a great box set by a band called Tolerance from Japan. Tolerance is Junko Tange with some guitar work by Masami Yoshikawa. The set consists of the two official albums, Anonym and Divin, as well as the transfer of a cassette titled Dose and an LP of demos. So far, this is my favorite album of the year.

https://www.discogs.com/Tolerance-Tolerance/release/18209647

You can read a great review of Anonym by John Olson here

https://www.forcedexposure.com/Catalog/tolerance-anonym-lp/VANITY.004LP.html

I hope you have a great weekend. For me, it will be proofreading, writing, music and radio show work, which never ends. Next week’s show is almost ready and it’s a great one.

Have a great weekend, stay safe and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! I don’t know what the calendar says and I don’t particularly care. As far as I’m concerned, May is the start of summer. May, June, July, August, those are the months of summer. It’s early Saturday morning, around 0042 hrs. I’ve just shut down the system for the night. I checked out the new Alan Vega album Mutator tonight. It’s good. We have a track from the album next week. I haven’t heard the new Dinosaur Jr. album in full yet. Hopefully, a copy will be at the mail pick up place. I’m looking forward to hearing it. I’ve only checked out the two songs the press person allowed me to have before the release date.

About two hours ago, I played the new Civic album Future Forecast. I’ve had the digital tracks for a few weeks and they’re great but the songs on vinyl are so much better. Really solid album by this great Australian band. https://flightlessrecords.com/products/civic-future-forecast-pre-order

Sweeping Promises album info: https://sweepingpromises.bandcamp.com/releases

Dree Leer info here: https://dreeleer.com/music

About an hour ago, the great Dave Ruffy of Ruts/Rut DC wrote and told me about a live stream event they’re doing on Monday, 2000 hrs. UK time. I hope to check it out. Here’s the info on that: https://rutsdc.com/electracoustic-live-stream

Several weeks ago, Danny Elfman wrote to tell me he had finished a new album and asked if I wanted to hear it. Of course. It’s called Big Mess. I listened to it twice. There’s not a second on it that’s not hectic and really great. He sent some radio clean tracks so we could get them into the play list. He just sent the 2LP test pressing and that’s really great. So, tonight, we start with Big Mess tracks. Here’s an address to check out more. https://dannyelfman.bandcamp.com/album/big-mess

I hope you like the tunes we have gathered for you. I was up until late last night finishing off next week’s show. Once I had it all sequenced, I played the tracks in order from start to finish and I think it’s a good one.

Please get vaccinated and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! I hope your week was good and that you got a copy of the new Dinosaur Jr. album Sweep It Into Space. Mine hasn’t arrived yet. I have two tracks that the press people have sent me but that’s it so far. Looking forward to hearing the whole thing.

I’ve been working away on book stuff, which isn’t all that interesting as it’s the same thing every day and it seems to take forever but there’s a book at the end of it, so that keeps me going. I’ve been holding onto a lot of Magma Tones releases saving them for warmer weather. This would be the label own by Jani Hirvonen of Uton in Finland. I’ve been digging the Noise/Drone strangeness as I scan and proof read. Last night, totally caved in and went on a UK Subs tear, which was good but didn’t get any unheard records played. Sure sounded good.

Fanatic, as you know, it is not for me to get out in front of a band or a label when it comes to upcoming releases. I will tell you that I’ve heard a few records coming out later this year and we are in for some great listening ahead. As soon as I get the all clear, we will be getting the songs on the show for sure.

Next week, we’ll have a track from Danny Elfman’s new album called Big Mess. He let me hear it several weeks ago and sent a test pressing last week. It’s hectic from start to finish. On vinyl it’s great.

If you’re wondering if on track 16 in our first hour that’s Lime Crush covering Black Tambourine’s Can’t Explain, you are correct, Fanatic. Sub Divide is a good record on the Fettkakao label.

Last week, we had 04-20, which I celebrated by listening to a blue vinyl pressing of Dopesmoker by Sleep and on 04-21, Mr. Iggy Pop’s birthday, I listened to three CDs from the You Think You’re Bad, Man? 5CD Stooges box set.

Next week’s show is done and ready to go. It’s going to be a great one so please tune in if you can and until then, stay safe and STAY FANATIC!!!

https://lesfillesdeillighadad.bandcamp.com/album/at-pioneer-works

I have a test pressing of the Les Filles de Illighadad LP and it’s great. We’ll get more into this one when the tracks are cleared. Speaking of test pressings, as it is our practice to not announce a record before a label does, I can drop the faintest of hints about a test pressing that I played last night for a new album that will be out late this year by one of our great sonic allies. I can’t wait to be able to get this one out to you. I’m standing by for instruction as to when that’s possible but we will get to every track.

It’s Friday evening as I write this. I have a great night of listening and work planned. Well, the work will be super boring but the listening will be top notch.

Next Friday is Ian MacKaye’s birthday. I think he’s at least 23 this year.

Be safe and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! I hope you had a great week. A good mix tape we have here for you tonight. Just so you know, there is a healthy amount of new records out and coming out over the next several months and we will be bringing them to you as best we can. Some of the releases, the labels have not announced yet. I’m always very careful not to say anything before the labels or bands as it’s not for me to get out in front of them. I will say that there are some great records coming our way and I’m fairly sure they’re coming out this year. The virus has not been kind to release schedules.

This is a great gathering of tunes which we hope you will like. Next week’s show is almost done and it’s going to be a real cool time.

Have an excellent, safe, distanced weekend and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! I hope you had a great week and that you got some great listening in. I’m doing my best to log a few hours a day of great tunes and have been doing pretty well with it. Music is good at any time of the year of course but my favorite time listen to music is in warm to hot weather. It seems to make more sense. I’m always trying to hear new music but at the same time, there’s so many spring/summer favorites I want to listen to. I’ll have to get up earlier.

Fanatic, if you look at our second hour, you’ll see that we’ve got a bit of Ty Segall going on. We’re going to listen to the Live At Zebulon. It’s a half hour set and it’s really good. Here’s the address to get the vinyl. https://ty-segall.com/products/ty-segall-live-at-zebulon-lp

Here’s a record you might want to check out. I think it’s great. Sweeping Promises - Hunger For A Way Out. We’ll be starting tracks soon. https://sweepingpromises.bandcamp.com/album/hunger-for-a-way-out

Endless Garbage with John Dwyer and associates. This is a really good record. The pre-sales blew out and the colored edition has been flipped to the regular places for way too much but I’m willing to bet there will be a repressing that will be a bit easier on the wallet. Keep your eye out for this one. https://www.castlefacerecords.com/products/endless-garbage-john-dwyer-ted-byrnes-greg-coates-tom-dolas-and-brad-caulkins?variant=39256447451222

Heidi sent me this link days ago. It’s great to see Robert Fripp play this song.

Fanatic! I hope you had a great week. Last night, I listened to The Fall - Live At St. Helens Technical College '81 LP + 7” that Castle Face has just released. This is such a great find. The sound quality is superb and the band is just incredible. It’s amazing that this show went unreleased for so long. If you’re a Fall fan, you really want to check this out. I went to the label’s Bandcamp page looking for a download version. I want to play the whole thing on one of our shows this year. So far, I haven’t found any place where I can get a digital version but I’ll keep trying. Here’s the Castle Face address for the record if you’re interested.

Remember all those Bandcamp addresses I put here last week? Here they are again.

I’ve been getting my spring listening set up over the last several days, balancing those records with new ones that have been coming in as well as checking out the records that have been sitting on the shelf for awhile. Next to my desk in the office, I have a lot of interesting music on CD and cassette. I have two boxes. One of them is for what I haven’t heard yet. I play something and once it’s done, I put it in the other box. It’s so utilitarian but it works. I’m in there every day, working on things.

As to our show tonight, it’s a great one. We’ve got a great mix tape of songs that you will hopefully find to your liking.

Next week, get ready, in our second hour, we will be listening to the Ty Segall live at Zebulon show. It’s a great thirty minute set with Ty in full distorto mode that I think you’re going to like.

There are some great records that have come out recently that we’ll be getting into. I think we’re in for an excellent spring/summer of music.

Let’s be smart, have a great time and STAY FANATIC!!!

Fanatic! It’s good to be back with you, I hope the week was as good as thing allow. Right now, it’s Friday night. I’m listening to Machine Gun Etiquette by the Damned, the Drastic Plastic 200 gram black vinyl pressing. Sounds great. All those Drastic Plastic Damned reissues sound really good. It’s been raining here, which as you might know, is pretty rare for this part of the country. It would be a perfect time to be somewhere other than in the same place I’m at pretty much every night. I guess I could get in my car, drive to my pre COVID Friday night perch and park outside of it and write this but that’s a bit much for even me.

Fanatic, I was always hoping this was going to happen and finally, it did. Evil Power, the crushing album by Lair Of The Minotaur is on LP. I’ve played it twice and it’s so good. We’ll have a track from it on next weeks show. This is the album that contains my favorite LOTM track, which is the second on the first side. Here’s the site info.

https://improvedsequence.bandcamp.com/album/evil-power-imp011

You might notice, Fanatic, that we start our second hour with a track by Mr. Paul Leary. Yes, the one from the Butthole Surfers. Great guy. He has a new solo album out called Born Stupid. We have been cleared to play the title track. https://shimmy-disc.net/bornstupid.html

You also might notice that we finish the second hour with the title track from a relatively new Osees record. It’s a long track, so get ready to all in. I say a relatively new track because there seems to be a new Dwyer related release ever other week. I think the vinyl is sold out on Weirdo Hairdo but the download is available. Next week, we will be able to start tracks on the Witch Egg album on the great Rock Is Hell label. This features John Dwyer, Bent Arcana and Thee Oh Sees era Dwyer alums. I’ve had this album for about five months and have been looking forward to the time we’d be able to start playing tracks. I think it’s one of the coolest and most interesting things Mr. D has done to date.

I hope you have a great and safe weekend. Thanks for checking out the notes and our show.

Keep playing records and STAY FANATIC!!!
