Fanatic! Check out our new time slot. This has been in the works for quite a while. As you might know, there’s been some changes at KCRW. This is a brief article about what’s been happening.

This newly implemented schedule allows us to have one more show in October. So, we decided to make it fun with quite a few tricks mixed in with the treats.

We’re stoked about being on Friday nights and look forward to starting off the weekend with you. If this time slot isn’t working for your schedule, please check us out on archive at the site.

Years ago, I told someone that because of the misery of high school, Friday turned into my favorite day of the week. It was the beginning of 48 hours away from the gulag. The person I told this to explained that this sentiment was probably felt by every single person who ever endured school. Oh. Nonetheless, it’s still my favorite day of the week. The challenge for me has been to make the weekend stand up to the expectation I weigh it down with. Sometimes, thinking about it, anticipating it, using it as an incentive to get through some of the more excruciatingly mundane tasks of the rest of the week is better than the actual time. It was for me to make the weekend as great as I thought it could be. I’ve been able to achieve the proverbial great weekend with some consistency by listening to a lot of music. Obviously, there’s myriad destinations of happiness, and whatever works for you is the one or ones to go with. For many years, music has been what’s made the weekends memorable for me. When I’m able, I plan ahead, down to the exact records to be played, records to be looked at and records to be thought about and written down to make sure they get played later. Also, thinking about places. As I’ve no doubt worn you out over the years, my thoughts while the music is playing on a weekend night, often go to where I first concluded that somehow, music was going to be a big part of my life, even if it was just going to the record store, listening to music or checking out a live show. Whenever I have the opportunity to visit Washington, DC, where I come from, I try to go to as many of my favorite landmarks as I can. It’s a lot easier to think of these places than to actually be there, so I do my best to remember the last visit. A few weeks ago, I was afforded a couple of days walking around in the old neighborhood in the great autumn weather. Those memories have been with me for the last few weeks.

Weeks ago, I journeyed it to DC in order to work on a great project. Ian MacKaye and I went to Inner Ear Studios, where we made our first records decades ago and mixed a four song session with the great Don Zientara at the board. This is the same studio, where the Teen Idles, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and many others recorded. It was amazing to be back there with Ian and Don. Part way through the mix, none other than Eddie Janney, he of the Untouchables, Rights Of Spring, One Last Wish, Happy Go Licky, Skewbald and other great bands joined us. The session benefited greatly by his presence. As to the tracks, I had them mastered several days ago, and I’m now working on the layout and design for the record. When it’s ready, I’ll let you know. We are extremely excited by this one.

We’re honored to be able to bring you a weekly show, and beyond grateful to be able to keep it happening, year after year. We’re looking forward to bringing you super cool music on Friday nights—the best night of the week.

We hope you enjoy tonight’s gathering of tunes and the stories that accompany many of them. Thank you so much for tuning in. Until next Friday, keep the jam session going and STAY FANATIC!!!
