RADIO BROADCAST #859
09–20–25
Fanatic! I hope you had a great week. I had a chance to listen to some records.
As I’ve told you too many times, I listen to seasonally and September I could be back into Joy Division records. I’ve been playing a bootleg live recording every single night this week and it’s been great. Unfortunately, postage and tariff hassles have made getting things from other countries a bit more involved than they used to be and a lot of these live albums are stuck in Europe or Australia. As far as good Joy Division bootlegs, may I suggest the band’s second-to-last show from April 19, 1980 at the Ajanta Theatre in Derby, England. It’s a great set list, featuring songs from Closer, and the band tears it up. You’ll see it listed under different titles, such as Dead Souls, Beginning Of The End, That’ll Be The End, and Dance To The Radio, which seems to be a new pressing, and not having heard it, I can’t vouch for its sonic integrity. This one just happens to be my personal favorite, but the Malvern Winter Gardens show is also great as is the University Of London show. I’m no expert by any means but I’m a fan and I think those are really good. At the end of the day, any live Joy Division is worth checking out.
The new Snooper album Worldwide comes out on October 3. It is so good.
