RADIO BROADCAST #913
10-02-26
Fanatic! I hope you had a great week. We had a few days of autumn weather, but then like some cruel joke, the temperatures went back up into the low 90s.
Last Saturday, I was at Gonerfest 23 in Memphis. I was the MC for the night shift. I saw some really great bands: Zoh Amba, the Lotts, the Slippers, Ibex Clone, Retail Simps, the Drags, and Death.
Before I went to the site, I spent a cool afternoon with the members of Death at Phillips Studio. It was amazing to stand in the same room where the Cramps recorded Songs The Lord Taught Us. Of course, it’s not the only band that ever made a record there. The list of bands and musicians who have been in that building is incredible. A lot of the inside hasn’t been changed from when it was first put together. It was walking back into the past.
Next month, we’re going to listen to the bands that I saw at the festival. I think you’re going to like them, if you haven’t heard them already. I knew about Death and Ibex Clone, but the others were new to me.
This is going to be really cool. Two great reissues of The Fall: Fall In A Hole, and 77–Early Years–79, are slated for reissue, November 27 on the excellent Superior Viaduct label. Anytime you see anything coming out on Superior Viaduct, just know that it’s going to be excellent quality. Can’t wait for these. I got the files for Fall In A Hole from the label. Apparently, this is the first time the audio has been sourced from the master tape. I compared it to previous masterings and this new one is quite an improvement. How am I not surprised? Superior Viaduct does not mess around. Definitely a label to keep your eye on. https://www.superiorviaduct.com/collections/the-fall-2026
I was able to get the Joy Division Eternal live box set. Apparently it went out of print and now the prices are increasing online. I’m sorry about this. Next month, we’ll start working in tracks from the set. In an effort to make it last, I’m listening to one CD a night, and so far it’s really good. If you’re a fan of the bootlegs, none of the shows are unfamiliar, but the sound quality is very good.
Two nights ago, I listened to the new 7FO album, Hirotta Ishiga Wareta. Really good. My limited skills of description do not enable me to accurately depict how the tracks sound, but you can go to their Bandcamp page and check out the tracks. https://emrecords.bandcamp.com/album/hirotta-ishiga-wareta
I keep coming back to the Toinen Vaihe album by Draamakuu, which is Draama Helmi and Jonna Karanka. Jonna sent me the tracks several weeks ago. It’s a really cool record, and we have a track from it on the show tonight. I’m unable to describe it, but here’s the page on Bandcamp, so you can check it out. https://fonal.bandcamp.com/album/toinen-vaihe
I’ve been putting a lot of work into the Substack page I started last month. It’s been really cool being able to throw images in so easily. I used 78 last month.

Henry Rollins: Cool Evidence
Captured Moments From The Last Century
Radar615 Gallery / MZA Architecture and Interiors
November 6 & 7
Hello, Henry Rollins here. I wrote the following in an effort to somehow entice you to come to this event. An incredible amount of time, effort and expenditure has gone into this. I’ve either gotten it extremely right, or catastrophically wrong!
For many years, I’ve been fascinated with historical markers. Physical objects that still remain years after they were created, become irrefutable evidence of time and place. Memories fade and retelling of facts often leads to distortion. However, the genuine article remains unperturbed.
Something I’ve done, which is probably ridiculous, but is quite demonstrative of what’s behind the Cool Evidence exhibit—I’ve anthropomorphized Time. I think Time seeks to obliterate the past and make the future all but completely speculative in an effort to keep us in the present, where it can be the center of attention. This is why carbon-based artifacts turn to dust, and that which came before can completely disappear, unless there are those who choose to be careful and patient guardians of the past. They seek to slow down decay and keep the facts intact. While I don’t consider Time to be my enemy, I’d like to think it considers me a constant and persistent annoyance.
Humans are capable of the worst things the planet has ever endured. I try to focus on the truly great, epically inspired aspects of humanity. Everything in the Cool Evidence exhibit denotes a time and place, be it an event, or just the fraction of a second it takes for a camera to extract an image—forcing a testimony from Time that humans can be exceptional. There’s always an alternative to misery. The Cool Evidence exhibit is the proof.
You could also just say that Cool Evidence is a collection of really interesting items that has taken me decades to assemble, and hopefully those who come to check it out will have a great experience.
On display will be things from the 70s-80s Washington DC music scene, tour posters and photos of Black Flag, the Damned, the Cramps, from Lux and Ivy’s personal collection, Iggy Pop, the Stooges and more.
I’d like to thank Lain York of Radar615 for his unwavering enthusiasm in allowing this project to materialize. When I pitched him on the idea months ago, he didn’t hesitate.
Thanks for reading this,
Henry
