RADIO BROADCAST #867

Fanatic! I hope November’s been treating you well. I’ve been supplying the two crazy squirrels in my backyard raw almonds for most of this year. Up until a few weeks ago, they seemed quite happy with them. One of the squirrels, not seeing any almonds scattered on the back porch area would come up to the window and bang its paws on the glass, reminding me that I have to supply the demand. For the last few weeks, I’ve been leaving almonds out, thinking the squirrels might need to bulk up for the winter months. I’ve watched them, day after day, walk right over the almonds. I did some research and found that squirrels are very careful about their diet and after awhile, might back away from the almonds, unless they bury them for later. Well, then, I’m going to have to find something else to give them. Later: I switched to raw walnuts, and the squirrels are eating them.

I just finished listening to the In The Red album by the great Australian group the Prize. We’ve been playing tracks from the band on the show, but I just had a chance to sit and carefully listen to the record all the way through. It’s really good. https://theprizemelbourne.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-red-usa

Very cool band on the great Damnably label called BB Bomb. We’re checking them out in the first hour. https://bbbombband.bandcamp.com/album/practice-songs

You might notice at the beginning of our second hour, new music by Ekko Astral. Hopefully, there’s more to come. https://ekkoastral.bandcamp.com/album/horseglue

The new album by Black Eyes, Hostile Design, just came out on Dischord. There’s a lot of FCC unfriendly language in the tracks and I don’t need the aggravation of trying to excise everything so we’re going to give the record a miss for the most part, but it should be checked out, absolutely.

The Morwan album we’ve been listening to over the last couple of weeks, Vse Po Kolu, Znovu, is really worth checking out. https://morwan.bandcamp.com/album/vse-po-kolu-znovu

You also noticed, that we’re listening to another track from that excellent Kid Congo & TNDE album Live @ St. Kilda . I’m sorry that we didn’t get into it more completely when it was first released. It’s so good and a great example of why you should never miss an opportunity to see Kid Congo.

I just did a couple of podcasts with my longtime pal Paul Rieckhoff. If you wanna listen to them here they are.

Episode 372 - It’s Time to Bring Back Punk Rock

Episode 373 - On Venezuela: Show Me the Dope

I think we have a great mix of tunes for you tonight. I take the tracks to the gym with me and listen as I plot endlessly into the future on the treadmill, listening down before we subject you to do the same. It’s very helpful for final edits. It’s a multi-day process, but I think it’s worth it. I like what we have here and hope you do as well.

Thank you so much for tuning in, have a great weekend and STAY FANATIC!!!
