Fanatic! Here we are in a new season. I don’t know what the calendar is saying but as far as I’m concerned, it’s autumn. It hit 95° where I am today.

Last Friday night, I was in Kansas City at a really cool event. Chuck Armstrong and I presented the Cramps Gravest Gravy album in a great listening room with an extremely solid playback set up. The record sounded great and I think everyone had a good time.

I flew back to Nashville on Saturday morning. And soon after made my way down to the Radar615 Gallery for the Alicja Trout event. I was stoked and relieved that people showed up. The next event Lain, the man who runs the place and I will be doing will be on November 5 and 6. That’s Friday and Saturday night. We’ll be putting up part of my collection, which will include posters, photographs, and other objects from the Washington, DC late 70s early 80s music scene, Black Flag, the Misfits, the Cramps, the Stooges, the Birthday Party, the Damned, the Adverts, Buzzcocks, Gun Club, The Fall, the U.K. Subs, the Ruts, and others. Many of the photographs, if not most of them that will be on the walls, have never been published. Like I said, this event isn’t until November, so I’ll be reminding you again. I just wanted you to know about this. I think it’s going to be great. I hope you get a chance to check it out. The event is free, however, Lain and I will be shouldering some expenses. He calls it, “brutal generosity,” which not only fits perfectly, but is very funny.

Several months ago, it was suggested to me that I start a Substack page. I was working on a lot of other things and put the idea to the side. Then, one day on the treadmill, where I allow my thoughts to go wherever they want, I started coming up with ideas for a page that could be good. I figured the one thing I could not do was to be low on material and be unable to put something up for people. I decided to start work on the project in April and decided to start posting things on September 1. The reason I didn’t announce it until today is because I wanted the potential reader to have several pages to look through, to get an idea of what I’m doing. This is the address to find it:

I’m charging five dollars a month. Why isn’t it free? That’s a fair question, for which I have an answer. I think free could potentially inspire a lack of effort on the creative end of things, that is to say, me. If it’s free, and I don’t post something for a few days, you have no room to complain—it’s free. But if you’re paying, you rightfully expect something for your money. Although I don’t need that kind of pressure to get anything done, I think it’s a good thing. Once I put myself into something, I can be quite committed. So, you can check it out for a month and if it’s no good, you’ll know. I hope you do, but if you don’t, that’s okay. So far, there’s about 5000 words and quite a few photos there already.

I’ve been looking forward to our September shows. We’ve been working on them for several days. Hopefully you’ll find this to be a good soundtrack for the start of your first September weekend this year. Please stay hydrated. It’s a fact that a lot of people don’t upload nearly enough liquid. It’s not good for you. Have a great weekend and STAY FANATIC!!!
